It was with great sadness that the Kingswood community heard of the death of alumni Tim Curry, one of Britain's most distinctive and celebrated actors. Long before he became known around the world for unforgettable roles such as Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and King Arthur in Spamalot, Curry was honing his talents on the Kingswood stage between 1956 and 1964.

The son of a Methodist Royal Naval Chaplain, Tim first developed his remarkable voice as a boy soprano, winning certificates at the Mid-Somerset Festival and taking an active part in school life. His theatrical debut at Kingswood came at the age of thirteen when he played Tobit in Tobias and the Angel. He went on to appear as the Postmaster in Gogol's The Government Inspector and the Earl of Pembroke in Shakespeare's King John, demonstrating an enthusiasm and stage presence that would become his trademark.

His standout performance came in 1964 as Phacides in William Golding's The Brass Butterfly. The school review praised a performance that "deservedly brought the house down", hinting at the remarkable future that lay ahead. Reflecting on those years, drama producer John Gardner remembered Tim as "a live wire" with a clear and active personality, always fully committed to every production.

Tim Curry's extraordinary career and enduring legacy remain a source of great pride for the school. With Drama and Theatre Studies remaining as popular today as they did when Tim was at Kingswood, he is remembered with affection and gratitude by generations of the Kingswood community.
