News from Andrew Rose KS 1963-1971

From ANDREW ROSE 1963-71.

Thanks for the recently emailed copy of the newsletter, always a good read. I still like to see how the Cricket XI perform each year as I have many happy memories of playing on the Upper especially cricket but also rugby (1st XV) and hockey (2nd XI).

My love of cricket really began at KS and I had three years in the 1st XI  from 1969-71, captaining the side in my final two years. I have never missed a season since and am still playing at the age of 72! Latterly I have been playing for Devon Seniors in the National County Championships. After 9 years representing the Over 60s 2nd XI I have had two seasons now representing the County Over 70s side. I usually open or bat number 3. This year we qualified to play in the National Bowl competition (the best of the rest!) and won our final against Sussex in a close match played at Banbury. Though our regional matches involve a lot of travel I thoroughly enjoy the camaraderie and competitiveness of the matches. Now I have a trophy to make it all worthwhile (see photo). Perhaps this will give inspiration to those who just staring our on their sporting careers at KS.

Having been retired from teaching for several years in my other spare time I sing in a choir with my wife, volunteer as a driver in a local food bank once a week, and am now in my 47th year as a Methodist local preacher. All of these interests stem from the education and values that I received during my time at KS. So I am for ever grateful for my time in Bath.

Regards.

Andrew
