What's in the Archives?

The PR were invited to hear a short talk by the Archivist, Zoë, who presented the history of Kingswood through a selection of her favourite archive items. Highlights included:

• John Wesley’s 1768 letter to Headmaster Joseph Benson, featuring the quote: “An ounce of love is worth a pound of knowledge.”
• A Short Account of Kingswood School by John Wesley, published in 1749
• Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century account books
• John Wesley’s Primitive Physik, first published in 1747
• A nineteenth-century photograph album depicting the PR in 1892
• A recently conserved sixteenth-century Bible
• A school rugby cap awarded in 1912
• A history of the PR, founded 150 years ago in 1875
• A tour of the dining hall gallery, showcasing Kingswood’s history through images and archival displays
