The Kingswood Old Girls' were joined by staff on the 23rd of September to play a game against the current 1st XI on site.
The girls arrived to sunny September weather; a good omen for the match to come. Despite never having played together before, the team (which consisted of five Kingswood Old Girls, and five current members of staff) showed incredible coherency when working together on pitch. The game escalated quickly as the 1st XI realised the strength of the Old Girls' team, as the game began to converge in the home goal and the Old Girls pressed their advantage. The match evened out after a stray ball put Molly Hamilton out of action for a bit, and the 1st XI grew confident in their aerials. Mimi Watts and Jasmine Cameron were essential in transferring the ball to mid-court, and Vix Sims and Robyn Newman put in some excellent tackles, keeping the game in constant high-speed action. Through some excellent runs from Grace Cardwell, Michelle Newman and Rosie Bond had some excellent opportunities to score, but the 1st XI goalie was in good form that day and defintely made it difficult. As soon as the ball was deflected from the goal, the 1st XI took it up the pitch keeping our defence and mid-court players on their toes. It is a testament to the team's effort and skill that the only goal of the match was scored in the last five minutes by the KS 1st XI, but was immediately followed up by an incredible attempt from the Old Girls. A massive thanks goes to the team's goalie - Viv Kozel, for her incredible effort in saving some amazing shots from the 1st XI.
It was an amazing match from everyone involved and we hope to see the team again soon! Pictures from the day are up on the Kingswood Community website.
