Callum (Year 11) tested the new Tatuus MSV-22 car at Silverstone last week as part of his pre-season preparation for the upcoming BRDC GB3 championship (formerly British F3).
The new car has improved safety – principally the F1-style “halo” – along with a power increase and improved aero over last year’s car. Read the full report here: https://www.gb-3.net/gb3-news/it-s-amazing-it-s-so-good-to-drive-gb3-contenders-get-to-grips-with-tatuus-msv-022-at-silverstone/
The GB3 season starts in April at Oulton Park and covers eight rounds including a visit to Spa Francochamp in Belgium in July. The Championship is well regarded having been part of the careers of current F1 drivers George Russell, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, and will be shown on ITV4, the ITV Hub, Sky, as well as GB3’s own livestream YouTube channel. Further details can be found on www.GB-3.net
Golf
Patience has recently returned from a successful competition in Portugal. She achieved a very solid 16th place in a field of 90 of the top amateur women players in Europe. She is now ranked 375th out of all women amateur golfers in the world. Well done, Patience.
Cross Country
Last Saturday, Charlie, Emily and Grace, and Evie represented Avon county at the South West Championships held in Chippenham. All ran strongly with both the Junior Boys’ and Senior Girls’ Avon teams winning the team events. Charlie finished a superb 3rd place whilst Grace, Emily and Evie finished very credible 26th, 28th and 31st in a very competitive field. Huge congratulations to all of you for making it to the regional finals and for doing so well. We wish Charlie well in the Nationals later in the year.
Football
The 1st team are starting to develop a habit of drawing with a 1-1 result against Prior Park. This was our first home match of the season and a few mistakes allowed Prior Park opportunities that they were, fortunately for us, unable to capitalise upon, mainly due to some excellent goal keeping from Ted. Oscar finished well in the first half following a good delivery from a free kick by Jake.
The 2nd team maintained their 100% record with a convincing 5-2 win. Two goals from Haru, including one penalty, put us firmly in control. However, after being caught napping at the back, just prior to the half time break we went in only 2-1 up. In the second half, Edan added a 3rd goal to the Kingswood tally to maintain his 100% scoring in every game record and a further 2 goals in 2 minutes sealed the game and gave the score sheet a more accurate reflection of the game. James was excellent throughout and shared the man of the match honours with Haru, and Theo was influential in defence and as a leader for the team.
Netball
Last Saturday, the Netball Club had one of their most competitive block fixtures against Bristol Grammar School. Although BGS won the block, a handful of fixtures were only lost by a couple of goals. The 1sts had a superb match - they went seven goals down to finally win by two, 38-36. In attack, Maya, Alice and Nancy were awesome! At times, it only took three passes into the D to convert. Lauren was outstanding and changed Kingwood’s tempo and the BGS defenders crumbled as they struggled to defend.
The U13As had an impressive performance as the game unfolded. Freya and Rosie's shooting confidence grew as they scored some long range shots! The midcourt combination of Baci, Bea, Jess and Izzy was impressive and Ruth and Ciara pressurised the BGS shots. A final 22-10 win!
Team of the Week are the U14Bs who were in the lead every quarter. Dari and Poppy were consistent under the post and Jemima and Amelie fed the circle with finesse. Renissa and Eva were a great duo at the back as they boxed out and managed to get lots of turnover. Abi was formidable in defence, made countless clean interceptions and attacked with purpose through the court. A fantastic 12-8 win!
Hockey
It was another good week for our Hockey teams as all the Senior teams won against King’s Bruton and the U14 and U15 midweek results against KES meant we also won that block fixture overall.
Both U14 teams maintained their 100% win record, as did Team of the week the U16s as Dan, Tom and Charlie all impressed in wins for those teams. Stand in goalkeeper Mishari also claimed the Player of the match award in his first game in goal to help see the U15Cs to a 1-0 victory. The 4th XI finally got their season underway with goals from Alexander, Louis and Alex securing their 3-0 win, whilst Aodhan, Monty and Milo were the key men in the U13 matches against Millfield.
The 1st XI were once again indebted to captain Rob as he scored another hat-trick in a 4-0 win. Rob is a current England U18 international and has featured prominently for the 1st XI since Year 10. Even at that age, he was a key member of one of the strongest 1st teams Kingswood has ever produced and now, as captain, he sets the standards for the rest of the team to follow both in terms of his commitment to training and his performances on the pitch. The Hockey club, therefore, would like to congratulate Rob on receiving his Full Colours award.
